Airflow Overview
Airflow is an open source platform which was designed specifically for authoring scheduling and monitoring workflows. Initially it was created by Airbnb to address internal processes, but it has become open source project under the Apache non-profit foundation. Airflow as a platform, is designed to support Apache architecture due to its effective standard to describe the workflows as code as well as distributed task execution which makes it applicable to data engineering, machine learning pipelines, and DevOps.
The foundation of Airflow is DAG which represents sequential dependence of tasks which we are going to explain in the next section. This makes it possible to execute one task after the other while incorporating interdependencies thus easing their execution. It also provides scheduling functionality so that the business process could be initiated or operated on the basis of time dependent or event initiated time line.
